Petition is addressed to: Petitionsausschuss des Bundestages

I call for nature, the environment, and especially the oceans to be granted their own legal rights — similar to those already afforded to humans and animals.
These rights should include the right to integrity, preservation, and protection from exploitation. Environmental crimes such as overfishing, industrial pollution, illegal deforestation, or arson must be recognized as violations of these rights and prosecuted more severely.
Nature needs a legal voice to defend itself against destruction. To achieve this, independent representatives should be appointed to advocate for, enforce, and legally assert these rights.

Reason

Our future is inextricably linked to the state of nature.
The ongoing destruction of the environment and oceans not only threatens countless animal and plant species, but also the very foundations of life for future generations.
As long as nature is seen merely as property, its protection remains incomplete and optional.
By granting nature legal status and its own rights, we send a powerful message in favor of a more sustainable and respectful relationship with our planet.
It is time for nature to no longer be defenseless — but protected, because it has a right to be.

Thank you for your support, Jill Reineke
