Students who have less income or no income as a result of the current corona crisis must be entitled to short-time work compensation.(Kurzarbeitergeld)

Reason

Students who have a mini-job, working student job or similar suffer from the current situation in a critical way. While the federal government compensates permanent employees for the loss of earnings with up to 60% through short-time work compensation, we as students are on our own.

Especially we as students, who have moved out of our parent’s houses and are now financing ourselves mainly with one or multiple jobs, are in a highly precarious situation through no fault of our own. The continuation of our education is seriously jeopardized.

However, it is not possible to receive BAföG on short notice, even if taking the currently significantly lower earnings into account. That is due to the process of determining the eligibility which takes the net income of the parents from the year before last as the main measure.

We can no longer pay rent, semester fees, food and study materials. The Federal Government does not offer us compensation for our loss of earnings and does not provide any help to protect us from dropping out of university. Therefore, already now, at the beginning of the crisis, students are considering dropping out of their studies.

We demand that employed students in mini-job or working student contracts are granted the right to short-time work compensation.

Secure the subsistence and education of the students with your signature!
