On December 12, 2016 Regatta München e.V. will be finally delivering the 16,117 collected signatures to the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, for Building and Transport, which is responsible for sports in our state.

A delegation of different stakeholders, who signed the petition, will deliver the signatures to Permanent State Secretary Gerhard Eck to ask for support to maintain this unique Bavarian regatta and event site and the historic heritage of the XXth Summer Olympic Games of 1972.

The delegation will consist of:
• Isabell Feldmann of Rudergesellschaft München 1972, Bavarian champion rower 2015, representing the youth
• Thomas Stamm, President of the Bavarian Rowing Association, representing the supporting sports associations
• Hans-Johann Färber, 1972 Olympic Gold medallist, 4+, who won this historic medal at the Olympic regatta course, and 1976 Olympic Bronze medallist in Montreal, representing the active athletes of 1972 and a former employee at the regatta centre
• Oliver Bettzieche, President of Regatta München e.V. and petition initiator

“We are looking forward to delivering the numerous signatures from the metropolitan region of Munich, the State of Bavaria, all of Germany and the world”, says Oliver Bettzieche, President, Regatta München e.V. “The regatta course is a multi-use event location and sports events in rowing and canoe sprint would not be possible in Bavaria and southern Germany. But the venue is also an important factor for the surrounding communities and their hotels, restaurants, and retail shops. A forward looking, at-scale renovation that ensures future regattas is therefore crucial for many different stakeholder groups.”

The City of Munich is also willing to accept the signatures and is currently looking for a suitable date for the delivery.
