Die petisie is gerig aan: Mayoress and Town Council of Leer
Petition asking the mayoress and the Town Council of Leer, East Frisia, to establish a memorial at the site of the former synagogue in Leer which is both worth the name and accessible to the public: Up until the synagogue was burned down in November 1938 during the pogroms, it had been at its site at Heisfelder Straße Leer close to “Bummert”. Today the ground is private property. Apart from a small memorial across the street, there is only a plaque on the wall of a vacated building recalling the cruel past of this place. With this petition, initiated by various school in Landkreis Leer, the mayoress and the Town Council of Leer are asked to do everything in their power to establish a memorial at the site of the former synagogue in Leer which is both worth the name and accessible to the public, so as to make sure that the former site of the synagogue cannot simply disappear under a new structure.
Justification: This petition was initiated not least to thank Albrecht Weinberg who has continued to tell his life in the schools of Landkreis Leer in both inimitable and impressive manner.
