Marcus Rashford (26-Man United) was injured after colliding with a teammate in the A match.
The England national football team defeated Malta 2-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifying Group C match at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on Monday (Aug. 18). The win keeps England atop Group C with six wins and one draw (19 points). In second place is Italy (13 points) and in third is Ukraine (13 points).
The hosts deployed Rashford, Harry Kane, and Phil Foden in attack, with Conor Gallagher, Jordan Henderson, and Alexander Arnold in midfield. The defense was guarded by Pickerel, Tomori, Harry Maguire, Mark Gehi, and Kieran Trippier, with Jordan Pickford in goal.
With England up 1-0, the tide turned in the 13th minute of the second half. Arnold dribbled into the box at high speed. Rashford was in his path, but his path overlapped with Arnold's, causing a huge collision. Rashford was down for a long time, clutching his chest.

Rashford was subbed off shortly afterward. Gareth Southgate called Rashford to the bench and brought on Cole Palmer. The change in attacking personnel led to another goal. In the 30th minute of the second half, Kane scored a second goal off a Bukayo pass to make it 2-0.
Despite the victory, there was a major worry. Rashford was out of the lineup. Rashford has been in a deep slump this season, and the A-League match could have been a bounce-back game, but instead he came off with a bizarre injury.
In his post-match press conference, Southgate said, "As far as I'm concerned, Rashford's injury is not very serious. It was a natural collision. "I haven't had a chance to check Rashford's injury in detail yet, but he looked fine when he came off," Southgate said.
Rashford has just one goal and one assist in 11 English Premier League (EPL) appearances in a Manchester United shirt this season. That's less than any other defender on his team. In four UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage appearances, he hasn't scored a goal. This compares to 30 goals and 11 assists in 56 official games last season.
United goalkeeper Andre Onana was also injured in the A-match. However, in the 36th minute of the second half, Onana complained of pain and signed for a substitution, meaning he did not play the full game.
The Red Devils have a busy schedule ahead of them after this international break. They travel to Everton in the Premier League on Nov. 27, followed by a trip to Galatasaray (Turkiye) in the Champions League on Nov. 30. Early next month, they will host Newcastle, Chelsea, Bournemouth, and Bayern Munich.
