Real Madrid has responded to Carlo Ancelotti's surprise comments.

On Tuesday, Real Madrid issued a statement on its official website stating that the coach's earlier comments about missing the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Club World Cup were not true. 

“The club wishes to announce that for not a single moment has it questioned its participation in the new Club World Cup created by FIFA in 2025,” the club said. “Therefore, we will approach the tournament as planned, with pride and great passion so that millions of our fans around the world can dream again of a new title.” 

In an interview published earlier in the day by Italian outlet Il Giornale, Ancelotti said: “Players and clubs will not play in the Club World Cup. A Real match is worth 20 million euros ($29.5 billion) and FIFA wants to give us the same amount of prize money for the whole tournament,” Ancelotti said, adding, ‘We will reject the invitation.’ 

The FIFA Club World Cup will be reorganized in 2025 and will be played every four years instead of every year. It will be a club-based World Cup, moving from a seven-team format to a 32-team format. Real qualified for the tournament by winning the UEFA Champions League in the 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 seasons. 

The revamped Club World Cup is expected to have a significantly larger prize pool than the previous edition.

According to global soccer publication OneFootball UK last November, clubs are guaranteed at least €50 million ($72.3 million) just for participating in the 안전놀이터 tournament. For traveling costs alone to the United States, the 32 teams will receive a total of €2 billion from FIFA for the first time. The prize money will be added depending on the outcome of the matches, with the tournament's championship prize being worth around €100 million.

However, the amount of the prize money hasn“t been finalized, which is why it”s been suggested that it"ll be around €20 million. 

However, reports that Ancelotti would reject the idea have sparked controversy, especially since FIFA has renamed the tournament the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, while keeping the existing Club World Cup format. Real have a lot of competitions to compete in, with the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, and the Club World Cup all in Spain. 

But this will be a blip on the radar. 

Ancelotti posted on social media, “In an interview with Il Giornale, my comments about the Club World Cup were not interpreted in the way I intended. Nothing would take my attention away from Real Madrid more than to rule out the possibility of playing in what I believe could be a great opportunity to continue to win major trophies,” he said in a statement on social media.
