This proposal was recommended by experts during the on-site assessment of the premises. The experts have aptly summarized the lack of space at our school: The space situation at BGS Göttingen is intolerable and will continue to deteriorate over the next school years. Due to the demographic development in the BGS catchment area, it is clear that in the coming school years there will consistently be 4 classes per year group. However, a structural expansion of the school is not possible on the school grounds.
In the past, containers (!) have already been set up and computer rooms have been closed in order to cope with the lack of space. However, these measures are no alternative for regular classes - there is a lack of space for children and equipment.
The Brüder Grimm School is located directly next to the Godehard School. We are an inclusive, intercultural school with DaZ and language support classes, with decades of experience in supporting our diverse pupils. We are a school with committed parents from all parts of Göttingen society. As parents of this school, we are proud of our school - of the diversity, the committed staff, but also the support and teaching concepts at the school.
And as parents of the Brüder Grimm School, we also say to the families of the Godehard School: Your families are very welcome at our school! If the short distance to your place of work at the UMG is so important, you will not drive a meter further when you visit the Brüder-Grimm-Schule!

But we also know that where we speak confidently of diversity, the public often speaks of "hotspots". And when parents prefer to enrol their children in a “school of choice”, there is often more to it than just the distance to their workplace.

That's why we as parents at the Brüder Grimm School also say: We won't let the label of “hotspot school” be put on us!

Renting out the Godehard rooms is also about the big picture. Especially in times when intolerance and hate speech threaten our democracy, the formation of elites is detrimental to cohesion in our society. If educational and income elites want to separate themselves from the rest of society in schools of choice, that is one thing. However, the rented rooms of the Godehard School belong to the public sector, they belong to society at large, and should also be made available to the regular state school, which is attended by society at large. No elite formation in the school system should be supported at the expense of state schools.

We therefore call on you:

• Support the petition of the parents of the Brüder Grimm School!
• Join us in stopping the renting of classrooms to the Godehard School, which should be there for the pupils of the general public!
• Show your solidarity with the pupils of the Brothers Grimm School!
