Bankenverantwortung

In der Finanzkrise hatte Island seine Banken in Konkurs gehen lassen, deren Bankster (und Politiker) vor Gericht gestellt. Heute hat Island wieder Tritt gefasst. Eine solche Konsequenz, dass Banken für ihr Tun auch Verantwortung übernehmen, kann so schlecht also gar nicht sein.

Wirtschaftsmodell ohne Zukunft

Finanziert wurde das Wirtschaftswachstum vor allem mit ausländischem Kapital, vornehmlich aus Griechenland und Russland. Ein alternatives Wirtschaftsmodell ist aber nicht in Sicht. Die Industrie ist mit einem Anteil von 6 Prozent an der Gesamtwirtschaft zu klein, um die negativen Effekte der Umstrukturierung im Finanzsektor und im öffentlichen Dienst zu kompensieren. Und auch das zweite wirtschaftliche Standbein der Insel, der Tourismus, kann das nicht leisten.

Hier kann man die geordnete Staatsinsolvenz proben. Das ideale Testfeld für weitere Pleitekandidaten. Wer behauptet denn, dass die anderen in den nächsten Jahren nicht doch noch folgen?

Fehlende Zustimmung des IWF

Fehlende Zustimmung des IWF Der IWF bezweifelt, dass mit den diskutierten Hilfsmaßnahmen die Schuldentragfähigkeit Zyperns hergestellt werden kann. Das ist aber eine Bedingung für IWF-Hilfen. Deshalb fordert der Fonds, dass die zyprischen Banken vom ESM rekapitalisiert werden. Doch Voraussetzung hierfür ist eine gemeinsame europäische Bankenaufsicht, die es nicht vor Mitte 2014 geben wird. Alternativ könnte die Schuldentragfähigkeit durch einen Schuldenschnitt wiederhergestellt werden.
