When will we see him in the first team, the benefits are obvious
Begründung
Only 14 games in.
Kiwoom Heroes' Jang Jae-young (22) wanted to play shortstop for the club when he switched to hitting. He had experience playing shortstop in high school. To be fair, Kiwoom still doesn't have a clear-cut shortstop at this point.
But coach Hong Won-ki disagreed. He encouraged her to play in the outfield. He even told him that if he had a solid defensive position and was competitive, he would move him up to the first team. He had his reasons. First of all, you can't ask a 22-year-old hitter to be a specialized designated hitter without a position. He doesn't have a clear position, but his hitting talent is good.
The idea was that he would adapt faster in the outfield than in the infield. It"s true that Jang Jae-young is still young enough to challenge the infield. However, the infield, especially shortstop, is harder to adapt to and more competitive. Kiwoom already sees Lee Jae-sang, a top high school prospect, as his next starting shortstop. There's also Choi Young-woo, a former top baseball player. It's unlikely Jang Jae-young will be able to overtake them on defense right away.
If you wait for that, you're not going to be able to use your bat in the first team. The outfield defense is by no means easy, but it's something that I think I can adapt to relatively quickly. He has the athleticism and talent to do it, so the overall judgment is that he can benefit himself and the team by focusing on the outfield.
Jang Jae-young is basically a player whose elbow needs to be treated. He has been practicing defense as much as he can without straining his arm, and on September 9, he played center field at No. 5 in Goyang's home game in the Futures League against the Doosan Bears. It was his first defense appearance in 14 Futures League games after being 먹튀검증 converted to a hitter.
On that day, the Goyang Heroes lost 6-12 to Doosan. The game was self-destructive, with six errors, but Jang Jae-young did not commit an error on the field. It's hard to pinpoint Jang's defense, but it's safe to say that he had a solid debut.
At the plate, Jae-young went 0-for-4 with a walk. In 14 games, Jae-young is batting .224 with 11 hits in 49 at-bats, two home runs, seven RBIs, five runs scored, 10 walks, and 19 strikeouts. His bat is still a bit of a work in progress. He strikes out a lot and doesn't have a lot of long balls outside of his two home runs.
Jang Jae-young will need some time to break into the first team. He needs to take the long view. If Jang Jae-young is rushed into the first team and doesn"t perform well, it could be psychologically damaging for him. It's not too late to speed up the treatment of his elbow, improve his defense, and get him into the first team. The club is not in a hurry.
There are advantages to this. Because Jang is a right-handed hitter, he could be competitive and scarce in the first team as a right-handed outfielder in the future. At this point, the only right-handed outfielder in the first team is veteran Lee Hyung-jong. Jang Jae-young's best chance to compete for a spot in the first team is in the outfield.
Kiwoom has continued his natural retooling of the beast this season. In the long run, it will be a huge success if Jang Jae-young becomes the engine of the first team after Kim Hye-sung leaves for the major leagues. There's no reason to rush it.
