The signatories call on Katja Keul, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, and Department 512, which is responsible for visas, to make it possible for the relatives of our seriously ill friend Nurdin to enter Germany so that his family can accompany him on his last journey.
Reason
Nurdin is currently undergoing palliative treatment after a short, serious and extremely rapidly progressing illness. He has very little time left. Contrary to his express wishes, it is no longer medically possible to transport him to Ghana. The doctors treating him have recommended that his wife and brother, who live in Ghana, come to Germany as soon as possible. Nurdin has no direct relatives in Germany.
Despite a declaration of commitment and supporting letters from the doctors treating him, both visa applications were rejected by the German embassy in Accra. The reason given was that there were "reasonable doubts about the reliability, authenticity or veracity of the documents submitted" and "reasonable doubts about your intention [the wife's and brother's intention] to leave the territory of the member states before the visa expires". During the application process, however, neither the attending doctors nor the inviting person were contacted by the embassy to confirm the truthfulness and reliability of the supporting documents.
The decision is not only incomprehensible from a procedural point of view. It is not justifiable from a human rights, humanitarian and medical-ethical point of view! The family simply does not have the time for the lengthy legal process against the decision.
We therefore urge you to have the process re-examined as quickly as possible in the interests of fundamental humanity and human dignity and to allow the wife and brother to enter the country after all! A person's wish to be accompanied on their last journey by their closest relatives and to say goodbye with dignity should not be prevented by state bureaucracy.
