Nation's top snowboarder wins slopestyle gold

The nation's leading snowboarder Lee Chaeun (Suri High School) has won Korea's third gold medal at the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics (Gangwon 2024) in Gangwon-do Province.
Lee on Jan. 25 was victorious in the finals of the men's slopestyle at Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort in Hoengseong-gun County, Gangwon-do, with a score of 96. Eli Bouchard of Canada was runner-up with 90.
Lee's gold is Korea's first in a snowboarding event in a youth or regular Winter Olympics, marking a new chapter in the country's history of the sport.
His first run earned 91.5 points to lead the finals but his second resulted in just 37.5 for sixth after he fell while landing after attempting a triple cork. On his third, he landed a triple cork to clinch the round's highest score of 96 and claim the gold.
Lee said on his performance, "When I landed, I thought 'I definitely won this. I can't not win this. Even if I lost, I know I at least got a medal.' So I reached the finish line in a great mood."
Aiming for a triple crown, he will compete in big air on Jan. 28 and the main event half pipe on Feb. 1.
