Petition is addressed to: Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin

We are the MedIslam Collective, a working group supported by over 400 medical students at Charité. What we are currently experiencing is an act of institutional discrimination that we would not have thought possible at a cosmopolitan and responsible university.

Following unsubstantiated accusations in the media, the university management is planning to ban our working group. We have already been banned from using university premises without a transparent procedure, without reliable evidence of misconduct and without a fair hearing.

In discussions, we experience a basic attitude of mistrust, intimidation and threats from the university
management. Members of our working group were shouted at, interrupted and their integrity questioned.

In addition, we were put under pressure with the threat of targeted media exposure, a process that for us is tantamount to public prejudgement.

This institutional escalation has real consequences: Since the events became known, we have faced a wave of hate messages, public attacks and even assaults on campus, with no recognizable protective measures from the university administration.

We say very clearly: there is no place for anti-Muslim racism or discrimination of any kind at the Charité - as everywhere else.

We demand:

  1. The immediate end to all blanket prejudices and structural discrimination against Muslim students.
  2. The immediate withdrawal of the ban on the use of university premises by our working group MedIslam Collective.
  3. The refraining from any threats, in particular the threat of public media exposure or other attempts at intimidation.
  4. A clear and public statement condemning anti-Muslim racism and any form of discrimination at the Charité, as well as concrete measures to protect affected students.
  5. The establishment of a respectful, open and fair dialog with us students, free from intimidation, threats and degradation.

Reason

With this petition, we would like to draw attention to the current events at Charité and highlight the far-reaching consequences of the decisions and behavior of the university management.

We are committed to a democratic, open and diverse university culture, to a university that does not close spaces, but opens them up.

The events of the past few days have been stressful, shocking and sobering for us. At the same time, they have strengthened our resolve to stand unwaveringly for our fundamental values: Respect, dialog and justice.

Why people sign

german angst and racism suck

Unfair discrimination.

It is clearly a misunderstanding, it is a common practice for religious consideration, you should question the participants if they feel discriminated against?

Fight against racisme and islamophobia is important

Its strange that public institutions can be biased. Against racism
