There are many arguments against the location of the "Birkenwäldchen" (forest function 3100 local climate protection forest) as a new school location in Bestensee. Our aim is to preserve something that cannot be replaced. This has also been confirmed to us in writing by the lower forestry authority in Brandenburg - the climate protection forest cannot be replaced and cannot be compensated for. Bestensee has been heavily built on and densified in recent years, especially in this area. The grove is the only remaining green forest island area with a special protective function in this massively built-up area. Soil compaction in Germany is currently leading to repeated flooding and the lack of woodland is causing great heat stress.
Support us in motivating the municipality (and the district) to find an alternative location for the secondary school (yes, there is one!) and to stop the careless clearing and densification of 23,000 m² of valuable woodland.

On 2 July 2024, the municipality decided to have an accelerated construction planning procedure drawn up. This means that it wants to minimise the environmental assessment and also limit public participation as much as possible. This is despite the fact that the municipality has been informed of the area's special need for protection. Here, people are deciding on an area whose value and function they do not know and do not understand. There are already compacted alternative areas in Bestensee and these should be utilised. Climate protection is also protection for us humans! We cannot and must not destroy even more valuable woodland when there are good alternatives. We must act now and show the municipality that we can't go on like this!
