Während in einer Großen Koalition die Einführung eines Mindestlohnes als wichtigster Erfolg für die SPD ausgesehen werden würde, dem andere wichtige Forderungen auf dem Altar des Kompromisses geopfert werden würden, herrschte in einem Rot-Rot-Grünen Bündnis von Beginn an in diesem Punkt Übereinstimmung. Somit würde die SPD über einen größeren Spielraum verfügen, weitere ihrer Forderungen durchsetzen zu können.
