He underwent a successful surgery this summer and was ready for the new season. He was named the new Tottenham captain ahead of the season. Tottenham announced on their website, "Son Heung-min has been appointed captain of our team. He takes over the captain's armband from Joris. James Maddison and Cristian Romero are the new vice-captains. Heung-min, who is also the captain of the South Korea national soccer team, is now entering his ninth season with Tottenham."
