Son Heung-min says he will focus on soccer until he retires because if he gets married, he will have to put his family first.
"Tottenham's captain Son Heung-min has strict rules for marriage that he inherited from his father," British media outlet Sports Bible reported on Nov. 11 (KST).
"My father told me that now is the time to focus on my career, and I agree with him. When you get married, your family, wife, and children come first, and then soccer. I don't know how long I'll be able to play at the highest level, so I want to make sure my soccer is the best it can be while I'm playing at the highest level."
Heung-min has become a world-class player in his own right, but it was his hard work and his father's dedication that got him there. Unlike other players, Son was trained by his father, a former soccer player himself. His father, Son Woong-jeong, taught him the basics. He went on to attend Northeast High School, and shortly thereafter traveled to Hamburg as part of the Korean Football Association's youth program.
Living in Europe at such a young age helped him develop step by step. He made his preseason debut for Hamburg in the 2010-11 season at the age of 18, and was quickly promoted to the professional ranks. His talent was noticed in Germany. He scored 41 goals in 135 Bundesliga games over five years with Hamburg and Leverkusen. He was called up by Mauricio Pochettino to join Tottenham in the Premier League (PL).

At the beginning of the PL, he was lacking. His touch was inaccurate and his movement was poor. I was disappointed with the €30 million transfer fee. Last season, he wasn't as explosive as he had been in the past. His early season slump saw him start some games from the bench. With the arrival of manager Enze Postecoglou, Tottenham have started a new chapter. The start of the season has been promising. They drew 2-2 with Brentford on the opening day, but have since won their next three games and are unbeaten in four. They even beat Manchester United 2-0. Currently, Spurs are in second place behind Manchester City.
