Petition addressed to: Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG), Munich City Council

🇬🇧

We demand from MVG:

  1. Transparency: Publish an annual, per-line disruption statistics report for all U-Bahn lines
  2. A concrete infrastructure plan for the U6 northern section (Kieferngarten–Garching-Forschungszentrum), with a binding timeline to address structural weak points — especially the Fröttmaning switch system
  3. A dedicated contact person at MVG for U6 commuters
  4. A publicly available contingency plan for major disruptions on the U6 northern corridor — including a pre-defined express bus service (e.g. Studentenstadt → Garching-Forschungszentrum direct, complemented by a stopping service for intermediate stations), to be activated automatically and promptly once a disruption crosses a defined threshold. Commuters should be informed of this plan in advance.

Reason

🇬🇧

The U6 is the only direct rail connection for thousands of daily commuters between Munich and the Garching Research Campus (TUM, LMU, Max Planck Institutes). There is no alternative — and it fails too often.
Over the past two years, U6 riders have experienced a disproportionate number of disruptions, closures, and service reductions compared to other MVG lines:

  • June 2024: Switch replacement at Fröttmaning — line split at Kieferngarten, Garching shuttle running only every 15–20 minutes
  • Repeatedly in 2024–2025: Switch failures in the Fröttmaning area, sometimes multiple times in a single day
  • February–May 2025 (~15 weeks): Full closure between Klinikum Großhadern and Implerstraße, replaced by buses
  • Spring 2025: Service cuts on U3/U6 due to excessive wheel wear on new C2 trains, compounded by ~27 unfilled maintenance positions
  • January 2026: Further rail grinding works between Westpark and Klinikum Großhadern

Munich's Abendzeitung has already identified the U6 as one of the most disrupted lines in the entire MVG network

Thank you so much for your support, Salvatore Cielo, München
