While the term "genocide" is a matter of public debate, in our view, as well as in the view of numerous human rights organizations, a genocide is taking place against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip. A UN commission of inquiry also recognized several actions by Israeli authorities and security forces as part of a genocide (September 16, 2025).

In its Middle East policy, the German government invokes a raison d'état grounded on German remembrance culture and the horrors of National Socialism – a raison d'état that is supposed to serve as justification for occupation, colonialism, and genocide!

The connection to National Socialism is a pretext that perverts historical lessons. For it was precisely during the Third Reich that the idea prevailed that the law must follow a higher state doctrine – a dogma that led to the destruction of society and immeasurable suffering. The raison d'état asserts that government interests take precedence over everything else, opening the door to arbitrary rule. It is not developed discursively or derived from applicable law, but is imposed top-down as commands from the center of power.

Renowned international law expert Kai Ambos therefore speaks of an “authoritarian concept” and explains: “The raison d'état is not law, it is the opposite of law.”

In view of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the demand for a community of destiny with the occupation regime is a moral failure of the highest order. “Enforced solidarity” with Israel is perceived internationally as aiding and abetting genocide and significantly damages Germany's reputation in the world – especially in the Middle East.

Critics worldwide, including human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, point to the devastating humanitarian consequences of the war and criticize the one-sided positioning of Western states, including Germany, as contributing to the escalation. In my opinion hardly any other state provides “Israel” with more political, moral, military, economic, and legal backing than the Federal Republic of Germany.

However, this not only leads to an erosion of Germany's reputation in the world, but also to growing alienation within German society, especially among Muslim communities. Millions of Muslims are being branded as subversives, even though their uncompromising stance on the occupation regime in Palestine reflects the majority opinion. 76% of Germans reject the war of annihilation in Gaza and are therefore demanding a revision of German policy on the Middle East!
