We call on the CDU and SPD to stop the planned reversal of the Cannabis Law (CanG) and instead give legalization a continued chance. Only in this way can we prevent millions of consumers from having to turn to the dangerous black market once again, and avoid losing important tax revenue.

Reason

Cannabis Legalization in Germany is Working!
Initial police reports from various federal states already confirm that the police and judiciary are being relieved. International experiences from countries like Canada clearly show that consumption does not increase, but instead becomes more controlled and safer. Cannabis clubs are currently making significant investments to ensure the highest quality and strict youth protection.

A reversal of the Cannabis Law (CanG) would have disastrous consequences:

  • Millions of consumers would again have to buy dangerous cannabis from the black market, which is often contaminated with toxic substances like pesticides or synthetic cutting agents.
  • The state would forgo hundreds of millions in tax revenue that is urgently needed for other important projects.
  • Already approved cannabis clubs would face existential hardship, as many have invested six-figure sums to meet all legal requirements.
  • Police and judiciary would once again be unnecessarily burdened and forced to deal with minor cannabis offenses instead of focusing on more serious issues.

That’s why we urgently call for this: Give legalization the time it needs to fully develop its positive effects — and only then evaluate the law seriously and based on facts.

Why people sign

(German version below)
Cannabis is still being stigmatised due to disinformation. It is not a panacea. However it is also absolutely harmless compare to alcohol or really addictive prescription drugs such as benzodiazepines or opiates.

Cannabis can be used to treat the addiction of all three drugs mentioned above. In many cases, it can also be used as a substitute for these drugs, without causing any of the harm or physical addiction.

The German constitution states:

Article 2 [Personal freedoms]
“(1) Every person shall have the right to free development of his personality insofar as he does not
violate the rights of others or offend against the constitutional order or the moral law.„

Furthermore:

Article 3 [Equality before the law]
„(1) Alle Menschen sind vor dem Gesetz gleich.“

Therefore differential treatment of cannabis, and alcohol consumers by German lawmakers is unconstitutional. We should at this point be discussing the relaxation of laws governing personal cultivation. Instead we are having to make our voices heard to keep only a small part of what is our constitutional right.
***
