Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde des Glas Kultur Campus Frauenau,

unser EU-Projekt „Grenzüberschreitende Glaskultur – vernetzen, erleben, inspirieren“ wurde genehmigt! Wir freuen uns sehr!

Unsere Idee: Mit dem Praxiswissen und den grenzüberschreitenden Beziehungen der Studioglasleute, die in Frauenau seit den 1960er Jahren ihren Fokus haben, führen wir das das Erbe der Glasmacher in der gemeinsamen bayerisch-böhmischen Glaslandschaft weiter. Drei Partner – das Bild-Werk Frauenau e.V., der Verbund der Böhmerwaldmuseen und das Glasmuseum Frauenau – bauen eine Infrastruktur für Kommunikation, Begegnung und Wissensaustausch.

Im Böhmerwaldmuseum in Kašperské Hory und im Glasmuseum Frauenau entstehen Ausstellungen zur Studioglaskunst, sowie 2027 eine Jubiläumsausstellung zum 100./90. Geburtstag von Erwin und Gretel Eisch und 40 Jahren Bild-Werk Frauenau.

In drei Jahren können wir die Künstlervilla von Erwin und Gretel Eisch fit machen für den Dauerbetrieb eines Künstlerhauses: Wir erhalten das Jugendstil-Flair der Räume und die Magie von 2 Künstlerateliers und machen das Haus öffentlich nutzbar. Das vielfältige Inventar, das die Erben mit der Villa dem Bild-Werk geschenkt haben, wird für Dokumentationen, Ausstellungen und Workshops erschlossen. Die Salons und der Skulpturengarten stehen für Kulturveranstaltungen und Feste offen.

Und auch die Internationale Akademie öffnet sich: Erlebnistage in unseren Werkstätten machen heißes und kaltes Glas für ein breites Publikum erlebbar – für Kinder und Jugendliche, Einheimische und touristische Besucher.

Ein Teil der Akademie ist im denkmalgeschützten Ambiente der ehemaligen Glashütte Gistl untergebracht. Dort – wie auch im Glasmuseum Frauenau und im Museum Šumavy - gibt es viel zu erzählen über das Arbeiten, Leben und Wandern der bayerischen und böhmischen Glashüttenleute. Für alle Kulturstätten im Projekt erarbeiten wir Führungslinien und trainieren Führungspersonal, so dass die Geschichten um Glas, Kunst und Kultur im Grenzgebiet noch lange weitergesponnen werden.

Es war ein langer Weg. Allen, die uns Mut gemacht, die mitgeholfen und gespendet haben, ein riesengroßes Dankeschön!
Bei einer Gesamtfördersumme von rd. 1.900.000 € gehen rd. 1.480.000 € an das Bild-Werk zum Aufbau des Glas Kultur Campus und der Künstlervilla. 10% davon müssen wir als Eigenmittel aufbringen – wir bitten daher weiterhin um finanzielle Unterstützung.

Dear friends of the Glass Culture Campus Frauenau,

We are delighted to let you know that our EU project “Cross-border Glass Culture – Connect, Experience, Inspire” has been approved!

Our idea: With the practical knowledge and cross-border relationships of the studio glass artists, who had their lively hotspot in Frauenau since the 1960s, we continue the legacy of the glassmakers in our Bavarian-Bohemian glass landscape. Three partners – Bild-Werk Frauenau, the Association of Bohemian Forest Museums, and the Glass Museum Frauenau – are building an infrastructure for communication, encounters, and knowledge exchange.

Exhibitions on studio glass art will be created at the Bohemian Forest Museum in Kašperské Hory and at the Glass Museum Frauenau, as well as a jubilee exhibition in 2027 celebrating the 100th/90th birthdays of Erwin and Gretel Eisch and 40 years of Bild-Werk Frauenau.

Over the next three years, we can now prepare the villa of Erwin and Gretel Eisch as an open artists’ house: We will preserve the Art Nouveau flair of the rooms and the magic of two artist studios, and make the house accessible to the public. The diverse contents, which the heirs donated to Bild-Werk along with the villa itself, will be made available for documentation, exhibitions, and workshops. The salons and the sculpture garden will host cultural events and festivities.

Our International Academy is also opening up: Experience days in our studios make hot and cold glass accessible to a wide audience – to children and young people, locals, and tourist visitors.

Part of our academy is housed in the heritage-protected setting of the former Gistl glassworks. There – as well as in the Glass Museum Frauenau and the Muzeum Šumavy – is much to tell about the work, life, and journeys of Bavarian and Bohemian glassworkers. For all cultural sites within the project, we will develop guided tours and train guides, so that the stories about glass, art, and culture in the border region will continue to be told into a future to come.

It has been a long journey. A huge thank you to everyone who encouraged us, helped, and donated!
With a total funding of around €1,900,000, about €1,480,000 go to Bild-Werk for the development of the Glass Culture Campus and the artists' villa. 10% of this must be raised as our own funds – so we continue to ask for financial support.

am 9. Mai 2026 um 14 Uhr laden wir in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Glaskörper Kulturverein e.V. zu einer großen Benefiz-Auktion zugunsten unserer Frauenauer Künstlervilla ein!

Internationale Künstler:innen unterstützen mit Werken aus Glas, Keramik, Skulptur, Malerei und Druckgrafik unser besonderes Vorhaben: Aus dem ehemaligen Wohnhaus von Erwin und Gretel Eisch soll ein offenes Künstlerhaus entstehen. Jedes Gebot in der Auktion hilft, diesen Ort in die Zukunft zu führen und als lebendigen Raum für Kunst und Austausch zu bewahren.

Im Rahmen des Glas Kultur Campus unterstützen die Auktionserlöse die behutsame Sanierung und Weiterentwicklung der bunten Künstlervilla, den Erhalt ihres Flairs, der Geschichten und des vielfältigen Wissens, das das Haus mit seinen beiden Ateliers, seinen Salons, dem Skulpturengarten bietet. Im Austausch mit den Böhmerwaldmuseen und dem Glasmuseum Frauenau soll das Erbe von Erwin und Gretel Eisch u.a. in Ausstellungen dokumentiert werden und vielfältige Veranstaltungen, Workshops und Erlebnisaktionen bereichern.
Für all das haben wir einen grenzüberschreitenden EU-Antrag eingereicht, der voraussichtlich einen Großteil der Kosten abdecken kann. Ein wesentlicher Eigenanteil bleibt jedoch zu leisten – hierzu soll die Benefiz-Auktion beitragen.

Die Benefiz-Auktion verspricht einen besonderen Tag mit Kunst, Musik, leckerem Essen und Gesprächen. Ab dem Nachmittag des Freitag, 8. Mai sind alle Werke in Tom’s Hall beim Bild-Werk Frauenau zur Vorbesichtigung ausgestellt.

On May 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., we warmly invite you - in cooperation with the Glaskörper Kulturverein e.V. - to a grand benefit auction in support of our Frauenau artists’ villa!

International artists are supporting our special project with works in glass, ceramics, sculpture, painting, and printmaking. We aim to transform the former home of Erwin and Gretel Eisch into an open artists’ house. Every bid in the auction will help secure the future of this unique place and preserve it as a vibrant venue for art and exchange.

As part of the Glas Kultur Campus, the auction proceeds will support the sensitive renovation and ongoing development of this colourful art nouveau villa - helping to maintain its special character, stories, and the wealth of knowledge held within its two ateliers, salons, and a sculpture garden. In cooperation with the Bohemian Forest Museums and the Frauenau Glass Museum, the legacy of Erwin and Gretel Eisch will be documented in exhibitions and enriched by a variety of events, workshops, and experiences.
 To achieve all this, we have submitted a cross-border EU funding application, which is expected to cover a large share of the costs. However, we still need to contribute a substantial amount ourselves - and this benefit auction is intended to help us reach that goal.

The auction promises a special day filled with art, music, refreshments, and stimulating conversation. All artworks can be previewed from the afternoon of Friday, May 8, in Tom’s Hall at Bild-Werk Frauenau.

Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde des Glas Kultur Campus in Frauenau,

am 3. Februar haben wir – das Bild-Werk Frauenau zusammen mit dem Böhmerwaldmuseum in Kašperské Hory und dem Glasmuseum Frauenau – einen großen EU-Förderantrag für unser Projekt „Grenzüberschreitende Glaskultur - erleben, vernetzen, inspirieren“ eingereicht.

In diesem Projekt wollen wir das Erbe der Glasmacher im Bayerischen Wald und Böhmerwald und das Können unserer Studioglaskünstlerinnen und -künstler in einer neuen gemeinsamen Glaskulturlandschaft zusammenführen. Glas soll in seinen vielen Facetten grenzüberschreitend erlebbar gemacht werden: In Ausstellungen, Glaserlebnistagen, glashistorischen Präsentationen, Kulturveranstaltungen, Festen…

Im Zentrum des Projekts steht die Ausgestaltung der Villa von Erwin und Gretel Eisch in Frauenau als öffentliches Künstlerhaus. Wir haben ein Konzept entwickelt, um das Flair der bunten Künstlervilla zu erhalten, das Interieur, viel Kunst, viel Archivgut zu erschließen, um das Haus für Führungen, Workshops und Veranstaltungen für viele Zielgruppen zu öffnen.
Für die professionelle Kuratierung der Villa, für Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und Projektmanagement sollen im Projekt auch neue Stellen geschaffen werden.

Nun hoffen wir, dass der Antrag positiv aufgenommen wird und wir zum 1. Juli durchstarten können! Wir sind zuversichtlich und bleiben dran!

Bis es soweit ist, ist viel zu tun. Die Vorplanungen, die bereits jetzt z.B. für Brandschutz, Denkmalschutz und die energetische Sanierung nötig sind, sind zudem kostenintensiv. Außerdem muss unser kleiner Verein Bild-Werk Frauenau beträchtliche Eigenmittel einwerben.

Dear friends of the Glas Kultur Campus in Frauenau,

On February 3, we - Bild-Werk Frauenau, together with the Bohemian Forest Museum in Kašperské Hory and the Glass Museum Frauenau - submitted a major EU funding application for our joint project “Cross-Border Glass Culture - Experience, Connect, Inspire.”

In this project, we aim to bring together the heritage of glassmakers in the Bavarian and Bohemian Forests with the skills of our studio glass artists, to create a new shared glass culture landscape. Glass, in all its many facets, is to be made accessible across borders through exhibitions, glass experience days, guided tours on the history of glass, cultural events, festivals…

At the heart of the project is the transformation of Erwin and Gretel Eisch’s Frauenau Villa into a public artists’ house. We have developed a concept to preserve the charm of the colourful artists’ villa, to make the interior, the extensive art collection, and the archives accessible, and to open the house for guided tours, workshops, and events for a wide range of audiences.
New positions are also to be created within the project for curating the villa, public relations, and project management.

Now we hope that the application will be approved and that we can get started on July 1! We are confident and will keep going!

There is much to do before then. The preliminary planning that is already required for example for fire safety, historic preservation, and energy-efficient renovation is also costly. And our small association, Bild-Werk Frauenau, must raise a considerable amount of its own funds.
