Am Abend kann man den Marktplatz und den Marienplatz nur noch mit Unbehagen betreten. Wenn die Politik weiter nicht tätig wird, entsteht hier ein zweites Duisburg-Marxloh.

Mit der Petition versuchen wir, Druck gegenüber der Stadtverwaltung aufzubauen, damit Rheydt besser wahrgenommen wird. Alle Bestrebungen zur Verbesserung der Situation in Rheydt bekommen mehr Gewicht, wenn möglichst viele Leute dahinter stehen. Deshalöb zählt jede Stimme!

Gegen die Petition spricht, dass Studenten (scheinbar nur die männlichen) die Stadt beleben sollen. Dazu ein paar Hardfacts: Die HSNR hat knapp 8000 Studierende, davon leben etwa 3000 in der Stadt Mönchengladbach. Das sind im Verhältnis zu anderen Universitätsstädten verschwindend geringe Zahlen. Damit kann man kein Viertel beleben.

Gegen die Petition spricht, dass immer mehr Ladenlokale bezogen werden. Das mantraartige wiederholen vom Leerstand in Rheydt entspricht nicht der Realität. Trotz Corona gibt es zahlreiche, neu bezogene Ladenlokale.

Gegen die Petiotion könnte sprechen, dass man der Meinung ist, die Stadtverwaltung würde ohnehin bereits ihr Möglichstes tun, um Rheydt nach vorne zu bringen.
